Known as "The Celebration City", Sulphur Springs has played host to 200+ events yearly. Downtown block parties have been the norm for Sulphur Springs. East Texas travelers are drawn to the plaza like a moths to a flame due to the revitalization that happened in the early 2010s.
Having a Dutch heritage, Hopkins County still holds many cooking contests that honor and remember the city pioneers. The competition is fierce with many contest teams vying for bragging rights, and the chance for their company or organization to be awarded prize money and recognition.
Major bank holidays and those that honor veterans capture the town’s annual attention and typically result in celebratory parades of which many organizations and businesses become involved. Fancy floats on wheels have their time in the sun while the whole county gathers downtown to watch the procession.
The Market on Celebration Plaza happens every mid-May to September. It’s not only fresh foods from farms, but a local artesian crafts and makers’ showcase. You never know what you’re going to find, but you’re given plenty of opportunities in Sulphur Springs.
Galas are a reason to put on your best black tie and dress event formalwear. They’re fun, fancy, and for a good cause. Sulphur Springs has several that occur annually. They are great for being seen and making the scene with the fancy and well-financed folks.
